Quotient today was awarded a patent covering an innovative way of distributing relevant digital coupons to shoppers on the go.
Patent number 9,727,889, which can be found on the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s website, covers technology and methods for distributing a digital coupon based on verification that a shopper has participated in a certain activity.
That activity could be requiring a shopper to watch a media message about a product before sending her a digital coupon. The patent discusses how a shopper could get started by aiming her smartphone’s camera at a QR code on product packaging. That would trigger an interactive video that, upon completion, would deliver a digital coupon.
In another example, a shopper might be asked to take a survey regarding a product to receive the digital coupon. The patent covers the methods by which this happens.
The patent lists three inventors – former CTO and current Quotient board member Steve Horowitz, engineer Jason Boehle and former engineer Bippin Pattan. Horowitz is now Vice President of Hardware for Snap Inc.
The innovations covered by these patents fit with Quotient’s core objectives – to save consumers time and money by delivering digital coupons that are relevant and easy to use.
