New Philanthropic Website Attempts Guinness World Records® Title for Largest Lunch Box, Donates Lunches to Local Shelters
Mountain View, CA – August 15, 2012 – Today, giving back just got easier with the launch of Coupons for Change, the philanthropic arm of Coupons.com, and its new CouponsforChange.org website that empowers consumers to make a difference in the lives of others simply by using coupons for everyday grocery and household items. Through the free and easy-to-use website, CouponsforChange.org allows consumers access to their favorite coupons with a portion of the money from each coupon used from the site going to Feeding America, the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity. Every three coupons used provides a meal to children and their families who are at risk for hunger.
“Coupons.com has always been a civic-minded company. It has never been a question of if we would give back, but a matter of how we could give back and create the greatest social impact,” said Michele Boal, Chief Philanthropy Officer of Coupons for Change & Co-Founder of Coupons.com Incorporated. “We are thrilled to launch Coupons for Change to empower consumers to join in the fight against domestic childhood hunger by simply using coupons that help them stretch their own household budget.”
How it Works:
• Simply visit www.CouponsforChange.org
• Choose the coupons you want from the everyday grocery and household brands you love and start stretching your dollars
• Print and use coupons in the store and feel great knowing those coupons are helping to fill lunch boxes and grocery bags of those in need through the Feeding America network
• For every three coupons used, a meal will be provided to children and families struggling with hunger
Coupons for Change offers virtually the same coupons users can find on Coupons.com, which offers the largest collection of coupons redeemable at grocery, drug and mass retail stores across the country. The site also offers coupon codes for use at many popular online retailers. By using the printable coupons from the Coupons for Change site, users can be a part of social change, helping fight childhood hunger and giving back to those who are struggling without spending money or changing a behavior.
“We are very excited to join forces with Coupons for Change as a unique partner that is enlisting technology to drive change,” said Ian Hunter, Director of New Partnerships at Feeding America. “The Coupons for Change model marries technology and savings to provide a great philanthropic opportunity for all users to make a difference.”
World’s Largest Lunchbox:
As part of the launch of the program, Coupons for Change will attempt to set the Guinness World Records® title for the world’s largest lunch box, to raise awareness of childhood hunger around the back-to-school season. As parents use coupons to purchase back-to-school lunch box items for their own children, they will also help provide a meal for another child who is struggling to eat.
The event will take place on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Coupons.com’s offices located at 500 Logue Avenue in Mountain View, CA. The giant lunch box, ten times the size of a traditional lunch box, will be filled with over 400 backpacks containing food for children in need. Supporters and partners of Coupons for Change will attend the event, including Jed York, CEO of the San Francisco 49ers, along with several popular alumni players, participating in alignment with the 49ers Foundation’s mission to help keep kids “Safe, On Track and In School.” Other folks on hand for the event include: representatives of Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties (shfb.org), Karae M. Lisle, CEO of InnVision Shelter Network (ivsn.org), and several families the organization has helped get back on their feet. All guests will help to fill backpacks for children in need, which will be donated to InnVision Shelter Network, a Bay Area non-profit dedicated to ending homelessness.
“Support from Feeding America, Second Harvest and the San Francisco 49ers is a testament to what we have created by enabling consumers to give back,” continued Boal. “It’s the collective ‘Power of We’ that can help make a big impact in fighting domestic hunger.”
Coupons for Change was started by Michele Boal, a co-founder of Coupons.com and wife of CEO, Steven Boal. Michele and Steven have a long-standing history of giving back to the community and wanted to make an even greater impact in giving back to the many people in need.
