She will oversee all of Coupons.com’s human resources functions, including talent acquisition, compensation and benefits, training and performance management, workforce planning, organizational development and facilities. Ms. Murgel brings 25 years of human resources experience—including more than a decade at the executive level—to the company. She most recently was executive HR consultant for Zappos.com Inc. focused on employee engagement, leadership development and strategic planning. At Zappos.com, she was instrumental in the company’s successful goal to achieve a coveted spot on the “Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For” list.
“As a recent winner of the Bay Area’s Best Places to Work, we are proud that employees rate our workplace so highly. We’ve definitely made a concerted effort to offer employees things that are important to them—from an environment that fosters a strong sense of ethics and values to benefits and perks,” said Steven Boal, Coupons.com CEO. “We look forward to continued awards and recognition with Michele at the helm and to leverage her 25 years of HR expertise to make Coupons.com an even better place for employees to do their best work and thrive.”
“I’m very excited to join Coupons.com and its incredibly talented team, as it continues to make an everlasting mark on the coupon industry,” said Murgel. “The opportunity is enormous, and I am very pleased to be a part of the impact the company and its digital products and services are having in the way that brands, retailers and consumers engage.”
Prior to her tenure at Zappos.com, Michele was at Threewave Software Inc., where she led the human resources function for the fast-growing game development studio. Before that, she was the head of human resources at Macromedia, Inc., overseeing an HR Team of 30, as the company grew from 350 people to well over 1,500 people and grew revenue five-fold to more than $500 million. She previously led the HR department for Alias Research in Toronto, implementing key programs to attract top talent that contributed to the company’s significant turnaround, leading to its merger with Silicon Graphics.
Recently, Michele combined her two passions of business and fitness to co-found a Barre-based fitness business in Vancouver, which recently celebrated the opening of a second location.
