From the USS Topeka to Procter & Gamble to Quotient: Chad Summe, VP and GM of U.S. Sales

Chad Summe, Vice President and General Manager, US Sales

Chad Summe, whose career path has taken him from working on a submarine to marketing diapers to selling digital coupons, has been promoted to Vice President and General Manager of U.S. Sales.  Chad, who had been in charge of Quotient’s Central Division, will now lead all Sales functions and oversee brand partnerships across all our Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) business.

Chad began his career as a nuclear engineer in the U.S. Navy’s Submarine Force, on the USS Topeka (SSN 754) in San Diego, California. The leap from submarines to Procter & Gamble (P&G) might seem unconventional, but for Chad it was a natural fit; he had studied economics and business and thrives working with and leading large teams. P&G, of course, had a century-long track record building the greatest brands in the world.

He joined P&G in 2007, doing strategy and brand marketing in the company’s Baby Care Division, working on both Pampers and Luvs. On Pampers, he helped drive strategy across regions.  “You learned about your consumer from doing ‘in-home’ market research across North America, Europe, and Asia,” he said. “We then used those consumer insights to inform everything we did, from product to shelf.” On Luvs, Chad led significant market share growth, resulting in them becoming one of the fastest growing P&G brands in North America in 2013.

As he watched CPGs starting to shift more and more budget into digital, he became intrigued by other opportunities. Quotient, then named Incorporated, was a leader in digital promotions, working with more than 2,000 CPG brands and reaching millions of shoppers every day. In 2012, he became Quotient’s leader for the Central and Midwest region. Since then, he’s been one of our top sales leaders and has spearheaded the company’s expansion in Cincinnati.

Chad graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with a B.S. in Economics (Honors), and he holds an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. He’s on the boards of the Cincinnati Economics Center and the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

He’s based in our new Cincinnati office, and reports to Mir Aamir, President and COO.  For more background on Chad, you can find him on LinkedIn. For his bio and high-res photo, visit our management page.
