Quotient for Change Collaborates with iMentor to Inspire Students
First-generation students explore career paths and get professional advice.
We recently teamed up with iMentor to host a fireside chat that highlighted professional opportunities and new career paths for high school and post-secondary students.
iMentor focuses on building mentoring relationships that empower first-generation students from low-income communities to graduate high school, succeed in college and achieve their ambitions. With panelists from a variety of teams like Marketing, Product Design, Operations and more, we were thrilled to participate in this experience and share personal anecdotes about our diverse professional journeys.
The Importance of Mentorship in Professional Development
The fireside chat began with a brief overview of Quotient and each panelist’s background and current role. We then proceeded with the Q&A portion, which covered questions such as professional hardships, choosing the right career and how to navigate the professional world as a first-generation college student.
Each panelist provided students with professional and personal advice as well as career insights as they narrated their backgrounds and career paths. The value of mentorship was evident in the panelists’ stories of their time as students and helped reinforce the importance of such a relationship for the participating students.

The Q&A was followed by break-out rooms, where students asked panelists about their professional journeys. The panelists shared advice on interviewing; landing jobs and internships; and general life advice like advocating for yourself and being able to ask for help, maintaining a high level of awareness of who you are, what you want to be and what you like.
Discovering New Opportunities with iMentor
Our panelists were grateful for the opportunity to participate in the event and interact with the workforce’s next generation, and students were eager to hear more about how they can position themselves for future success.
There is a lot of uncertainty as a high schooler or post-secondary student, and it is difficult to decipher what your options may be and what the future may hold. We are thankful that we could play a role in helping these students understand the world of opportunity available to them.
Thank you to iMentor and our panelists for helping to deliver such a worthwhile event!
